Supporting the next generation of scientists developing new approaches to antimicrobial resistance.

Antimicrobial resistance represents a major global health challenge and highlights the need to explore new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of bacterial infections.

As part of its commitment to antimicrobial research and the development of scientific talent, Telum Therapeutics is supporting the Industrial PhD of Carmen Monreal López, combining academic research with experimental work in an innovative biotechnology environment.

Advancing antimicrobial protein research

Carmen’s doctoral research focuses on the study and development of engineered antimicrobial proteins as a potential new approach to address infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Over the course of the project, the research has progressed from the identification and initial evaluation of antimicrobial proteins to the selection and further characterization of antimicrobial candidates against Staphylococcus aureus. This work has involved successive stages of experimental evaluation aimed at identifying proteins with suitable properties for further development.

The project has progressed from initial protein identification to the selection and further characterization of antimicrobial candidates against Staphylococcus aureus.

Carmen Monreal López

Industrial PhD Researcher

Carmen has participated throughout the project in different stages of the research process, gaining experience in recombinant protein research, microbiological characterization and the evaluation of antimicrobial activity.

Her doctoral work has also included collaboration with academic and research institutions, providing access to complementary scientific expertise and methodologies.

Connecting research, training and innovation

These advances represent an important milestone in Carmen’s Industrial PhD research and contribute to the broader effort to explore new biological approaches to address antimicrobial resistance.

The Industrial PhD programme provides an opportunity to combine scientific training, academic collaboration and biotechnology innovation, while strengthening research capabilities in Navarra in an area of significant global health relevance.
